Looking for a local music night in Norwich? I have just the Space for you.
Tucked away in the smallest of nook of our fine city, you’ll find a cool little music venue. Wedged between a restaurant and alcohol shop, Space Studios is easy to miss – that’s coming from the experience of someone who has walked past it regularly and never noticed it. But once you’ve found it, you won’t forget it.
I was lucky enough to head to Space Studios for This is Music Norwich’s recent gig, featuring four bands and promising lots of great music. Walking into the club, I was hit with the intimacy of the space, as I stood just mere metres away from the stage. And, as the evening progressed, I came to realise that Space Studios may be my new favourite music venue.
The Bungees kicked off the evening with an explosive opening track that had me toe-tapping in seconds. With heavy guitar, and fantastic vocal from frontman, Archie, this band is one to watch. Their energy on-stage was captivating, which is especially impressive since one of their members was a stand-in for the evening. If you get the opportunity, go and see The Bungees – and thank me later.
Next, Welsh pals, False Idols headed onstage, whistling to gain the attention of their audience. With a lead guitarist who donned large sunglasses, it was clear these lads meant business. Their sound was distinctly motivated by early 1990’s Madchester’s scene, with Happy Monday’s inspired lyrics to end one track. Another band I would highly recommend if you love indie music.
The third act were Northern band, Seeker. Armed with the amazing vocals and a succinct sound, their presence on stage was electric, and the bond between band members was clear. Their newest single, Grave is out now and gives a little teaser of what’s to come from the band.
The final band to take the stage were The Pouch, who had travelled from Brighton. This three-member band were a talented trio with a slightly softer indie sound and impressive vocals. The bands brilliant rendition of Rockafella Skank was the indie cover I didn’t know I needed.
This is Music Norwich managed to organise a great night of indie music celebration, in my new favourite Norwich music venue. I’d highly recommend you give them a follow on Instagram, and if you get the chance, head down to their next music event – fantastic tunes are guaranteed.
